TISS Launches ‘TISS Global’ on 90th Anniversary Milestone; Spotlighting India’s Development Journey on the world Stage
Mumbai: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) marked a historic milestone as it celebrated its 90th anniversary with the launch of ‘TISS Global’, a visionary platform designed to amplify India's development journey prominently on the international stage. As a dynamic forum for global engagement, this innovative platform aims to foster dialogue on India's social, cultural, economic, and geopolitical progress through collaborative events and research.
Initiative Highlights
Inaugurated on February 12, 2026, in Mumbai by Vice Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari, the launch featured Prof. Michael Pippenger from the University of Notre Dame as special guest, who emphasized cross-institutional partnerships for global challenges. TISS Global will host a year-long series of forums and thematic dialogues exploring India's community-driven models and participatory approaches, mediating local wisdom with worldwide sustainable development frameworks.
The platform connects scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and students globally, promoting ethical collaborations, comparative studies, and Indian perspectives in international knowledge systems. It also integrates cultural experiences such as Indian cuisine, arts and community traditions, offering participants a holistic experience of India’s social fabric and to enrich discussions on grassroots innovations from regions like rural Maharashtra, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Broader Anniversary Vision
This launch aligns with TISS's dual missions, including TISS Bharat for nationwide outreach to underrepresented communities via CUET expansions and faculty engagements in states like Tamil Nadu and the Northeast. Speakers such as Prof.Madhushree Sekher and Prof.Sunil Santha highlighted the initiative's role in linking research, policy, and practice for equitable growth. TISS Global underscores India's rising global influence standing as a testament to its enduring legacy, advocating context-sensitive research amid its evolution as a major actor in development discourse.
