Sophia College's FilmSoc to Host Documentary Film Festival 2026

Student-led festival brings award-winning documentaries and filmmakers to campus

Mumbai: The BA (Strategic Communication & Journalism) Department of Sophia College, in collaboration with its Film Society, FilmSoc, is set to host the Documentary Film Festival (DFF) 2026 at its Mumbai campus this month.

Scheduled across January 30 and 31, 2026, the two-day festival will showcase a curated lineup of contemporary Indian and international documentaries, followed by structured post-screening discussions. The festival opens with a curtain-raiser screening of Turtle Walker by Taira Malaney, and features films such as Cinema Pe Cinema, Sitaaron Ke Sitaare, What If I Tell You, To Kill a Tiger, I, Poppy, I Rise, Zinda Hai, and Gulabi Gang.

Screenings will be accompanied by filmmaker interactions, offering students and attendees direct engagement with directors whose work spans themes of social justice, gender, environment, disability, memory, and resistance. The programme culminates with a closing ceremony on January 31.

Designed as an academic and cultural initiative, DFF 2026 aims to deepen documentary literacy while creating space for dialogue around pressing social realities through cinema.
