Mumbai: University of Mumbai has approved guidelines for the fourth year of undergraduate courses under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The new system will be followed from the 2026–27 academic year. Students will complete their degree in four years, but they can also exit after three years with a regular degree.
In the fourth year, students can choose between an Honours degree or Honours with Research. Those who choose Honours will study their subject in more detail and complete the required credits along with an internship.
Students who opt for the Research track will have to complete a research project or dissertation. They must have a minimum CGPA of 7.5 to select this option.
The university has also said that only colleges with postgraduate courses can offer Honours programmes. Colleges with recognised research centres will be allowed to offer the Research option.
The fourth year will also be linked to postgraduate studies, making it easier for students to continue their education.
