Mumbai University Streamlines International Admissions with New Single Window System

Explore the University of Mumbai's single-window admission process for FR, FS, PIO, OCI, and NRI students. Learn about eligibility fees, documentation, and college allotment.

MUMBAI – The University of Mumbai (MU) has officially transitioned to a mandatory single-window admission process for all international applicants, including Foreign Residents (FR), Foreign Students (FS), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), and Non-Resident Indians (NRI).
Under the new mandate, affiliated colleges are prohibited from admitting international students directly. All applicants must now initiate their journey via the mu.admissiondesk.org portal.

The Process at a Glance:

  • Application: Students upload academic transcripts and passport details, paying a non-refundable $50 eligibility fee per course.
  • Verification: The Department of Students Development and the Eligibility Department review applications. Some students may require an Equivalence Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Letters of Intent: Eligible candidates receive a Prima Facie Letter, followed by a Provisional Admission Letter.
  • Allotment: After paying a non-refundable $1,000 admission fee, students rank five college preferences. However, a committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor makes the final merit-based allotment, which students cannot reject.

Visa & Enrolment: The final admission letter serves as the official document for visa applications. Once in India, students must register with the FRRO/FRO within 14 days (notably, the university suggests initiating contact within 2 days of arrival) and complete a medical check-up.
For housing, while students are responsible for their own stay, MU has partnered with Edulab Educational Exchange Pvt. Ltd. to assist with accommodation.

For further queries, the university has dedicated the email international.admission@mu.ac.in for student support.
