Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Group C Mains Exam News 2026: 1,884 Posts Opened

The MPSC posted notifications for the Group C Services Mains Examination, a big step for all those candidates who took the first phase exam this year. Advertisement No. 014/2026, available on mpsc.gov.in, gives candidates an opportunity to apply for 1,884 posts in 5 different Group C positions, which represent several departments in the Maharashtra government.

Candidates who qualified for the Group C Combined Preliminary Exam 2025, which took place on January 11, 2026, and had their results posted on May 4, 2026, have just been granted permission to appear for the competitive Main exam. The registration started on May 21, 2026, and will close on June 04, 2026. 1,673 Clerk-Typist positions (largest group), 125 Sub Inspector State Excise positions, 73 Tax Assistants, 9 Industry Inspectors, and 4 Technical Assistants are included in the drawing portion of this recruitment. Age Restriction, Criteria, and Wage Structure for MPSC Group C Positions

Eligibility conditions must be met by applicants seeking to sit for the MPSC Group C Mains 2026. With regard to a majority of positions, such as Clerk-Typist and Tax Assistant, candidates require at least a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University. However, the Industry Inspector Position is open to applicants with a BE or B. Tech Degree in the field of Civil Engineering and a degree in related fields, such as Architecture and Town Planning, or a degree in the field of Science. Unquestionably, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the Marathi Language for all positions available.

The age limit is set at 19 to 38 years of age in relation to the General category of candidates. The age limit for Backwards Class/EWS/Orphan candidates is set at 43 years, as for the remaining categories of candidates, age limit relaxations are provided for in the official notification. The nature of the work, as well as the responsibilities, is reflected in the salary structure of the respective positions. For a Clerk-Typist, the range is Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200. The salary range for a Tax Assistant is Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100. For Technical Assistants, it is Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300, and for Industry Inspectors, it is Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400, which is the upper salary limit for the range. These salary scales will be at the discretion of the employer and in accordance with the prevailing salary scales of the government of the State of Maharashtra, and will be paid with relevant allowances that are due.

 

Exam Pattern, Selection Process and Preparation Strategy

There is a well-defined, four-step process to MPSC Group 'C' Selection for the MPSC 2025 exam. Candidates will first clear the Combined Preliminary examination, which will be held on 11th January, 2026. Qualified candidates will then appear for the Mains exam, which is a written examination with 400 marks and will play a crucial role in the final selection. This will then be followed by the Typing Skill Test for Clerk-Typist and Tax Assistant posts, along with Document Verification, along with Physical or Medical Examination for the Sub-Inspector State Excise post, if applicable.

The examination for Mains shall comprise the General Knowledge syllabus, consisting of History, Geography, Polity, Economics and General Science, Current Affairs at the regional, national and international levels. Along with the subject-specific knowledge, the syllabus will also comprise Logical Reasoning and basic mathematics skills. For the post of Technical Assistant, Computer Applications and Data Communication, problems related to the IT industry will also be part of the syllabus. Questions shall be of objective nature and the level shall be that of graduation.

The Typing Skill Test will be conducted for the posts of Clerk-Typist. From the merit list of Mains, the top three candidates per post will be shortlisted. For the posts of Clerk-Typist, candidates will have to show that they can type in Marathi in addition to English, at the speed that has been prescribed by the Commission. Given that the 400-mark Mains paper is given a heavy weighting and is final in the merit list, candidates will have to invest in preparation for that subject, practice previous years' questions and maintain a consistent schedule of mock tests leading up to the exam.
