K J Somaiya Institute of Management Launches SAHARA to Champion Mental Wellness

The institute-wide initiative aims to foster emotional resilience, provide mental health support, and create a safe, inclusive campus environment.

Mumbai : In a meaningful step toward building a culture of care and emotional strength, K J Somaiya Institute of Management (KJSIM) formally launched SAHARA — a student-led initiative dedicated to supporting mental wellness and holistic wellbeing within its campus community.

The event, held on campus, brought together students, faculty, mental health professionals, and wellness partners to celebrate the beginning of what was described as “more than just a launch — but a mindset shift.”

Rooted in the values of Support, Awareness, Healing, Acceptance, Resilience, and Action, SAHARA is a safe space for individuals to seek help, share openly, and build emotional resilience together. The event featured the official introduction of the SAHARA team, comprising faculty mentors and student council members from diverse academic and personal backgrounds — from law to social sciences and psychology — offering a multidimensional approach to mental health.

Speaking at the launch, Director Raman Ramachandran, emphasized the importance of creating a culture rooted in empathy and support. “We often perceive our struggles as weaknesses, something that we don’t talk about. At KJSIM, your challenges matter as much as your achievements, and you don’t have to face them alone. With SAHARA, you have a safe, discreet space to seek support when you need it,” he added.

The initiative is being led by Ms Arti Bhargava, Senior Manager & Head - Admin and Operations, who shared its core pillars:

  1. Access to a digital wellness app via Phybercare
  2. Confidential counselling sessions with trained professionals
  3. A year-long calendar of workshops, campaigns, and support spaces

As part of its commitment to making mental wellness both accessible and personalized, the institute announced its partnership with Phybercare, a tech-enabled platform that allows students and faculty to schedule appointments, access wellness resources, and track their emotional journey — all through a secure mobile app.

Himanshu Vyas, Founder and Director, Phyber, gave a live walkthrough of the platform’s features and addressed student questions about how the app supports both individual growth and institutional insights. He added, “We’re redefining campus health infrastructure. Phyber equips colleges with smart, interoperable platforms that unify physical, mental, and preventive care—so student wellbeing becomes a connected, continuous part of university life.”

The institute has also formed a dedicated SAHARA Wellness Team, which includes trained professionals, faculty coordinators, and student volunteers who will lead wellness programming and peer support activities throughout the year.

Through SAHARA, the community at KJSIM will have access to:

  • Counselling and emotional support (on campus and online)
  • The Phybercare wellness app for confidential guidance and self-care tools
  • Workshops on stress management, resilience, and mindfulness

Safe spaces for conversations and community-building
