MH SET 2026 Postponed Again: SPPU Reschedules Maharashtra SET Exam to October 25
Maharashtra: The Maharashtra State Eligibility Test (MH SET) 2026 will now occur on October 25, 2026, instead of the previously listed date of September 27, 2026. Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has announced the revised date of the examination as per the draft, with the publication of the notification via its official website.
The 41st MH SET will have Anant Chaturdashi and other competitive exams scheduled by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as the reason for the change. The increased difficulty caused by changing the exam date once again makes the exam date a moving target for the aspirants.
MH SET 2026 New Exam Date: October 25
The 41st MH SET was originally scheduled for July 26, 2026. It was subsequently moved to September 6, then September 27, and has now been shifted again to October 25, 2026.
SPPU's latest Important Dates page lists October 25 as the examination date and October 15 as the scheduled date for admit card availability.

There is currently an outdated September 27 date displayed on the SPPU SET homepage banner, while the university's Important Dates page lists October 25. Candidates should therefore follow the latest official notification and the updated schedule rather than the older homepage banner.
Why Has MH SET 2026 Been Postponed Again?
SPPU cited scheduling for the UPSC and other competitive exams as a reason for postponement. The university also stated that it was difficult for candidates to travel to exam centres when Anant Chaturdashi is on September 21.
Candidates also made representations to the university regarding the examination date. The repeated revisions have created uncertainty for the candidates. But now, aspirants can prepare for the examination with the latest official schedule.
MH SET 2026: What Is the Examination For?
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is the State Agency for the state of Maharashtra and Goa. It conducts the exam for the selection of candidates for Assistant Professor jobs in universities and colleges in both states.
Qualifying the SET exam does not mean you have a job as an assistant professor. You still need to meet other norms of the university or college, as stipulated therein, and be selected. MH SET does not grant the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) either.
MH SET 2026 Exam Pattern
The examination will consist of 2 papers and will be of the OMR-based offline pattern.
- Paper I: Questions 50, Marks 100
- Paper II: Questions 100, Marks 200
- Time allotted for Paper I: 1 hour
- Time allotted for Paper II: 2 hours
- Total marks: 300
- Mode of exam: OMR-based
- Language: English and Marathi (except language papers)
Paper I checks the candidates’ aptitude for teaching and research, and assesses their general awareness. Paper II assesses subject-specific knowledge.
What Should MH SET Aspirants Do Now?
The postponement of the exam does not change the syllabus. Use the extra time with care rather than wasting time by resetting the Study plan. An effective method is to:
- Finish the remaining part of the syllabus.
- Solve previous years’ MH SET question papers.
- Practice full-length Paper I and Paper II tests.
- Analyze weak topics instead of increasing the number of study hours
- Keep a check on the official SPPU SET website for notifications and the release of Admit card.
- Download the admit card as soon as it is released.
According to SPPU’s present schedule, the admit card release is scheduled on October 15.
MH SET 2026: What Happens After Qualifying?
Successful candidates of MH SET are allowed to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in the respective Universities/Colleges of Maharashtra and Goa, as per the rules of the institution and their eligibility. The qualification of MH SET is not an appointment order.
Final Thoughts
According to SPPU’s new schedule of the exam, it will be held on October 25, despite being postponed from July 26, three times. The extra time is meaningful for the aspirants only if they use it for preparation. The date of the exam has been moved three times; the strategy of preparation must be fixed. Aspirants must consider October 25 the final date of preparation and keep a check on the official SPPU SET website to avoid relying on older notifications which are dated September 27, that are still available on some pages of the website.
