Maharashtra Schools to Implement CBSE Curriculum Statewide by 2028 Under NEP 2020

Mumbai : The Maharashtra government has announced the implementation of the CBSE curriculum in all state schools by 2028 as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Phased Rollout Plan

The transition will start with Class 1 in 2025, followed by a structured rollout across other grades:

  • 2026: Classes 2, 3, 4, and 6
  • 2027: Classes 5, 7, 9, and 11
  • 2028: Classes 8, 10, and 12

Balbharti has been assigned the responsibility of making the necessary curriculum changes, and the process of developing textbooks for Class 1 is already underway.

Key Features of the New Curriculum

The revamped syllabus aims to move beyond traditional final exams and focus on continuous and comprehensive evaluation. The curriculum will incorporate skill-based learning, practical education, and technological advancements to enhance students' academic experience.

Education Minister Bhuse emphasized that the shift to the CBSE framework will raise the quality of education, aligning Maharashtra's schools with national standards and improving students' learning outcomes.
