Mumbai: The Maharashtra education department has decided that the new academic year for schools will begin from June 15, 2026.
In a key change, the state will follow a uniform schedule across all regions, including Vidarbha, where schools earlier opened later due to weather conditions.
Officials said the move aims to bring consistency in the academic calendar and make planning easier for schools and authorities.
The department is also considering morning school sessions in some areas, especially where temperatures are high. This is expected to help students avoid heat during peak hours.
Summer vacations will continue through May and early June, as per the usual pattern followed in state schools.
Education officials, including senior authority Sharad Gosavi, have indicated that these changes are part of efforts to improve school functioning and ensure better coordination across the state.
