Maharashtra Hikes Scholarships for Differently Abled Students up to ₹1,000

Maharashtra government has increased scholarships for differently-abled students, raising aid up to ₹1,000 per month.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has increased the scholarship amount for differently-abled students, with the maximum monthly support now going up to ₹1,000.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting and comes after many years without revision. Earlier, students were receiving much lower amounts.

Under the new structure, students from Classes I to VIII will get ₹500 per month. Those in Classes IX and X will receive ₹600 or ₹800 depending on whether they are day scholars or hostel students. For Classes XI and XII, the amount goes up to ₹800 and ₹1,000.

The government has allocated around ₹23 crore for the scheme, which will benefit more than 90,000 students.

Extra support has also been included, such as help for visually impaired students to hire readers and opportunities for educational tours.

Officials said this move is meant to update old schemes and provide better support to students with disabilities.
