Maharashtra Postpones Class 5 & 8 Scholarship Exam 2026 Due to CTET Clash

The Maharashtra State Examination Council has postponed the 2026 Class 5 and 8 Scholarship Exams to February 22 after the original date clashed with CTET 2026. Check revised schedule, reasons, and key updates for students and schools.

Maharashtra Postpones Scholarship Exam 2026; New Date Set for February 22

Mumbai : The Maharashtra State Examination Council (MSCE), Pune, has announced a revised date for the Class 5 and Class 8 Scholarship Examinations 2026. The exams, earlier scheduled for February 8, 2026, have now been postponed to February 22, 2026.

The decision follows a clash with the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026, which is also scheduled for February 8. Many primary and secondary teachers across Maharashtra are expected to appear for CTET and had requested a date change to avoid inconvenience.

Why the Exam Was Postponed

Teachers reported difficulty in managing both CTET participation and invigilation duties for the Scholarship Examination on the same day. Considering these concerns, the Council decided to shift the state-level exam to ensure smooth conduct of both tests.

MSCE stated that the revised date will help teachers, students, schools, and exam centres plan effectively without operational challenges.

Official Statement

MSCE Commissioner Anuradha Oak has urged students, parents, teachers, and schools to take note of the new schedule. She stated that the rescheduling was done in response to legitimate concerns raised by stakeholders across the state.

Students preparing for the Scholarship Exam are advised to adjust their study timelines according to the updated date.

Importance of the Scholarship Examination

The Scholarship Examination plays a crucial role in identifying and supporting deserving students in Maharashtra.
Key points:

  • It offers financial assistance to meritorious and economically disadvantaged students.
  • The exam is held for students of Class 4 and Class 8.
  • It helps students continue their education without financial hurdles.
  • Alongside the state exam, central-level scholarships are available through the National Scholarship Examination and various national schemes.

CTET 2026: Reason for the Clash

CTET is a nationwide teacher eligibility assessment conducted by the CBSE. It is essential for teachers seeking recruitment or career growth in government and private schools.

With CTET scheduled on February 8, teachers expressed inability to handle exam duties for the Scholarship Examination on the same day. To avoid logistical issues at schools and centres, MSCE moved the Scholarship Exam to February 22, 2026.
