Dr Niteen Patil Appointed as the New Vice Chancellor of MAFSU

Through a decision taken by the Governor of Maharashtra, Dr Niteen Patil has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of MAFSU.

Nagpur: The Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) has a new leader at its helm as Dr Niteen Vasantrao Patil has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor. The decision was taken by the Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of state Universities, Ramesh Bais. Dr Patil's appointment comes after the completion of the term of the previous Vice Chancellor, Dr Ashish Paturkar, on January 21, 2023.

MAFSU is a prominent educational institution in Nagpur, Maharashtra, specialising in animal and fishery sciences. The university plays a vital role in research, education, and extension activities related to these fields and contributes significantly to the development of the agriculture and fisheries sectors in the state.

Dr Niteen Patil is a highly accomplished individual with extensive experience in Animal Nutrition. Presently serving as the Principal Scientist (Animal Nutrition) in the Division of Livestock Production and Range Management at ICAR- Central Arid Zone Research Institute in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Dr Patil brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position as the head of MAFSU.

Born on September 28, 1961, Dr Niteen Patil completed his M.V.Sc. in Animal Nutrition from PKV Akola and obtained his PhD from the prestigious National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in teaching, research, and extension education, making him a well-rounded candidate for the position.

The appointment of Dr Niteen Patil as the Vice Chancellor is for a term of five years from the date he assumes office or until he reaches the age of sixty-five, whichever comes earlier. His task will be to lead MAFSU towards continued growth and excellence in the fields of animal and fishery sciences.

The selection process for the Vice Chancellor involved a carefully constituted Search Committee headed by former Supreme Court Justice R.K. Agrawal. The committee's primary responsibility was recommending a panel of suitable candidates for the position. Alongside Justice R.K. Agrawal, the committee included Dr Ravishankar C. N., Director & Vice Chancellor of ICAR- Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), and J.P. Gupta, Principal Secretary, Government of Maharashtra.

After interviewing all the candidates recommended by the panel, the Governor of Maharashtra announced Dr Niteen Patil as the chosen candidate to lead MAFSU. This decision has been well-received, given Dr Patil's impressive track record and contributions to the field of animal nutrition and research.

With the appointment of Dr Niteen Patil as the Vice Chancellor of MAFSU, the university is poised to continue its pursuit of academic excellence and further advancements in the areas of animal and fishery sciences.
