Hyderabad: Osmania University's Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) will develop 440 digital Sanskrit lessons under a ₹70 lakh project funded by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). The initiative aims to digitally preserve Sanskrit knowledge and make it accessible to students through structured online courses.

Under the project, EMRC will create 110 hours of Sanskrit teaching content, which will be converted into 440 digital lessons using artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies. The courses will subsequently be offered to students as online minor courses through the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Division of the Ministry of Education.

As part of the initiative, EMRC will travel to different parts of the country to record lessons by retired Sanskrit professors and other experts. Their knowledge and expertise will be documented and converted into structured digital learning resources, helping preserve traditional scholarship for future generations.

The project will combine the expertise of Sanskrit scholars with modern digital technologies to create accessible learning material for students. The initiative is also expected to contribute to the wider objective of integrating India's traditional knowledge systems with contemporary education.

IIT Bombay Professor Pawan Kumar Hari said IIT Bombay selected Osmania University's EMRC after assessing its infrastructure, technical expertise and capabilities. He also indicated that IIT Bombay was exploring opportunities for undertaking additional joint projects with the centre.

Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram said the initiative would help pass India's knowledge heritage to future generations while strengthening the university's collaborations with leading academic and research institutions.

The project is expected to create a substantial digital repository of Sanskrit learning resources while providing students with new opportunities to study the language and its associated knowledge traditions through online education.
