Pune: As per the Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, the Directorate of Elementary Education has extended the deadline till March 10 for online application for admission in 25 percent reserved seats in private schools. Under this, 1 lakh 73 thousand 209 applications have been received so far for 1 lakh 1 thousand 942 seats in 9 thousand 84 schools in the state.

According to RTE, students from economically underprivileged and weaker provinces are given admission in 25 percent reserved seats in private schools. For this, the online admission process is implemented by the Department of Elementary Education. The online admission process is currently being implemented for admission for the academic year 2022-23. The online admission process is currently being implemented for 23 admissions.

Under the admission process, parents were given the deadline till Monday to fill up the online application. Meanwhile, the process of filling up admission forms in the state started in stages in February. The process of filling up admission forms for 25 percent reserved seats in the Pune district began last week. Despite this, parents in many districts, including Pune, have not been able to get enough time to fill out the admission form online. Therefore, there was a demand for an extension in filling up the application. Noting this, the Directorate of Elementary Education has given an extension to fill up the application under this admission process.

Dinkar Temkar, Director of Education, Directorate of Primary Education said, “In some districts, the group education officer and the education officer (primary) have been delayed in completing the school registration for the RTE 25 percent admission process for the academic year 2022-23. Therefore, parents have given an extension to fill up the application.”

Mukund Kirdat, Coordinator, AAP Parents Union, said that a minimum time of two weeks is required to fill up an online admission form under RTE. While filling out this application, cyber cafe owners are asking for more money from parents. Also, the process of filling up the application is slow and time-consuming. Also, when filling out the application, the available categories should be announced in PDF format, so that the schools will not be able to hide things.
