Pune: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), staged a ‘Jagran Gondhal’ agitation outside the main entrance of Savitribai Phule Pune University today. The protest against the changes made by the state government in the University Act, which they believe, threatens the autonomy of the university.

The students held placards that read ‘When will the sleeping government wake up ?, When will the students get justice?’, ‘Public protest against political interference in education’, ‘University will become a political party’.

The ABVP said that the agitation was organized to wake up the state government and protect the universities in Maharashtra. The government threatened the autonomy of the university by amending the university law. This can affect quality education.

The protesting students also said that they would protest against any attempt of political interference in the education sector.
