Mumbai : The K J Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT), Mumbai, successfully concluded a six-day offline Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “Fortifying the Digital Frontier: Cybersecurity Strategies for Threat Landscapes.” Funded by the AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy, the programme was hosted by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI-DS) on the KJSIT campus.

The initiative brought together over 50 faculty members and researchers from AICTE-approved institutions across Mumbai, providing them with cutting-edge insights and practical knowledge in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity. The programme featured a rich blend of interactive lectures, live demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on workshops, covering critical areas such as penetration testing, cybercrime investigation, network security, and emerging threat landscapes.

The FDP was inaugurated by Major Krishan V. (Retd), who delivered a powerful keynote on the importance of national cyber awareness and preparedness in educational institutions.

“One area often overlooked is the crucial role cybersecurity plays in academic environments. Every paper you write, every thesis you submit, is a potential target,” he noted.

He emphasized that academic institutions are now considered high-value cybersecurity targets and must build resilience as cybersecurity becomes a strategic national priority.

A notable highlight of the programme was an industrial visit to a leading cybersecurity and fintech firm, where participants interacted with professionals at a Security Operations Centre (SOC). This visit provided valuable industry exposure and bridged the gap between academic instruction and real-world cybersecurity practices.

Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, Principal of KJSIT, praised the programme’s impact:
“Cybersecurity isn’t just an industry concern—it’s an academic responsibility. When faculty are trained to lead in this space, they shape the next generation of digital defenders. This initiative reaffirms KJSIT’s commitment to academic excellence, national capacity building, and future-ready education.”

With its successful completion, the programme has laid the groundwork for stronger collaboration between academia and industry, empowering faculty to embed robust cybersecurity strategies into their teaching and research ecosystems.
