Ministry of Education Zeros in on Youth Participation with 1.26 Lakh Registrations for Yuva Sangam Phase VI
The pulse of Indian youth has been captured. The Ministry of Education, Government of India, launched Yuva Sangam Phase VI on 12 May, 2026. More than 1.26 Lakh registrations were recorded before the commencement of the tours. This number speaks for itself about the extent to which the programme has established itself in the hearts of Indian youth.
Yuva Sangam, as part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat spirit, aims to foster a blend of cultural and emotional inter-state relationships among the youth of the country through travel and human contact, rather than through classroom teaching and textbooks.
Phase VI comprises 22 paired States and Union Territories, with host institutes spread all over the country. Off-campus youth and students from Higher Educational Institutions are invited to participate. The program provides them with an opportunity to learn about regions they probably haven't explored before, both culturally and developmentally. The program started with two delegations already on the move. Youth from the Indian states of Rajasthan and Keralam were the first to embark on experiential learning tours, marking an enthusiastic start to this new Phase.
Rajasthan Team Travels to Karnataka; Keralam Youth Journey to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Rajasthan team was sent to Karnataka, where the Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, welcomed them as part of the inauguration and flag-off. The participants engaged in cultural immersion, learning about various teaching methodologies and gaining firsthand experience. Karnataka participants had the privilege of meeting Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka. He spoke about the role of youth in constructing a united and developed India and the role of Yuva Sangam in doing so. He remarked that youth is the real power of any nation, and programs aimed at bringing together the youth of various states to strengthen the country is highly commendable.
Simultaneously, the Keralam team departed from the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode to Jammu and Kashmir, spanning the southernmost academic institutions to the northernmost Himalayan region. They visited the Indian Institute of Management Jammu, the host institution for this leg of the trip. Participants engaged in cultural immersion, visiting various institutions and conducting community outreach to better understand the target community's social structure and heritage, as well as the region.
Who is Registering? Participation Data Reveals a Grassroots Movement
First, these numbers show the powerful registration data for Yuva Sangam Phase VI. Almost 95 percent of the 1.26 lakh registered participants are under 25 years old. This is an inclusive program for the country's youth, not just the elite. 51.05 percent of all registrations are women, meaning Phase VI registrations are the first female-majority Phase registrations. This also demonstrates a significant and positive change in society, encouraging young women to voluntarily leave their states to engage with diverse cultures, serve as leaders, and fulfil their civic duties to help develop the nation.
The most meaningful statistic is that 54.7 per cent of registrations are from rural areas, indicating that this program is neither urban nor metro-centric. It is targeting rural, small, and even the most remote regions. This demonstrates the demand for youth to discover and learn about all regions of this great country and offers a unique reach that very few government schemes claim.
Key Aspects of Yuva Sangam Phase VI for Indian Students
For many students, Yuva Sangam Phase VI presents the opportunity to do something most academic courses are unable to offer, which is seeing the other India. During the pairing program, participants travel to another state, spend time with peers who are completely different from them in culture, visit various establishments, attend cultural sessions, participate in activities with the local community, and return with insights they can never gain at home. This program is available to students enrolled in any Higher Educational Institution and to youth who are off-campus. With this program, the barriers for participation that some students may experience because of being outside of the formal college education is relieved, because participation is facilitated through specific state and institutional pairings, and the host institutions will work out the details and plan the activities for the receiving institutions.
Since there are 22 State-UT pairings in this phase, the program has limitless outreach. The students who register and are selected for the program will be able to take fully funded exposure visits, eliminating the financial barriers that often prevent youth from more rural, economically disadvantaged backgrounds from travelling. The Ministry of Education has dedicated resources to the program that spans six phases, signaling their commitment to integrating people across the nation. Rather than using top-down policies, this program seeks to connect people across the country in an authentic way. For students, this program offers an opportunity to engage in something that extends beyond a test or a degree, and that, in and of itself, is a great educational opportunity.
