Yuva Sangam Phase VII: Rajasthan To Host 55-member Sikkim Delegation For Cultural and Youth Exchange
New Delhi: Rajasthan is set to host a 55 member delegation from sister State Sikkim under the Yuva Sangam Phase VII with an aim to provide exposure to the youth of both the states to their culture, tradition, development, technology and way of living.
For Rajasthan, the desert state, the exchange will enable it to showcase its desert landscape and living heritage to the visiting delegates from Sikkim. For the Sikkim delegation, the Yuva Sangam is expected to facilitate a deep insight into the Rajasthan beyond its tourism destinations.
Rajasthan-Sikkim Yuva Sangam Phase VII: What Is the Programme?
Under Yuva Sangam Phase VII, Rajasthan has been paired with Sikkim; the Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IIT Jodhpur) has been designated as the nodal institute for Rajasthan while Sikkim University has been designated as the nodal institute for Sikkim. The Union Ministry of Education’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is conducting this Yuva Sangam as a part of its campaign to promote people-to-people connection and for enhancing understanding of the multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and diverse socio-cultural fabric of our country among the youth of India.
The Yuva Sangam framework has five themes, namely
- Paryatan (Tourism),
- Parampara (Traditions),
- Pragati (Development),
- Paraspar Sampark (People-to-People Connect),
- Prodyogiki (Technology)
When Will the Sikkim Delegation Reach Rajasthan?
As per the release by IIT Jodhpur as well as the local media, the 55-member Sikkim delegation is slated to arrive at IIT Jodhpur on September 27, 2026, with the welcome program scheduled to commence the next day. During the course of their visit to Rajasthan, the delegates from Sikkim are expected to undertake a number of institutional interactions, cultural programs, workshops, and visits to get exposed to Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage, developmental strategies, and technological and innovative initiatives.
The Rajasthan visit by the Sikkim delegation is expected to conclude with a programme on October 2, followed by the delegates from Sikkim departing for their home state on October 3, 2026.
Rajasthan Delegation Will Also Visit Sikkim
The inter-state youth exchange will be a two-way programme. It is understood that in addition to the Sikkim delegates visiting Rajasthan, a 55-member Rajasthan delegation will also visit Sikkim after the conclusion of the visit by the Sikkim delegates. As per the published schedule, the Rajasthan delegation is likely to depart for Sikkim on October 7, 2026, and is expected to return to IIT Jodhpur on October 16, 2026.
This is a two-way exchange as the participants will get exposed to the different ways of life while interacting with each other.
11,149 Registrations Received for Rajasthan-Sikkim Exchange
It is pertinent to mention that the Rajasthan-Sikkim exchange under the Yuva Sangam Phase VII has witnessed overwhelming response from the youth. As per IIT Jodhpur reports, there were 11,149 registrations for the Rajasthan-Sikkim youth exchange. After the screening process conducted by the EBSB Club, IIT Jodhpur, the final list of 50 students from Rajasthan, apart from the 5 institutional members, has been shortlisted for the exchange visit.
What Will Students Experience in Rajasthan?
The students from Sikkim will be visiting Rajasthan for institutional interactions, cultural programs, and workshops. However, the EBSB guidelines for Yuva Sangam VIII suggest that in addition to cultural exchange, the program should also focus on acquainting delegates with educational, governance, innovative, industrial, heritage, and community development initiatives.
Therefore, the Rajasthan visit by the Sikkim delegates can be expected to offer an enriching experience for the participants as they get exposed to the multi-faceted Rajasthan.
Yuva Sangam Phase VII: Wider National Framework
Yuva Sangam Phase VII is a nation-wide programme that connects 20 higher education institutions, including premier Institutes of Technology, Management, and Central Universities. The 20 institutes act as nodal centers for facilitating inter-state and inter-union territory youth exchange as a part of Yuva Sangam.
The program’s design is such that it offers a 5 to 7-day educational and cultural tour (excluding travel days) for students from participating institutes who interact with their counterparts from other states on education, culture, technology, and innovation. It is also an excellent opportunity for students to interact with delegates from diverse social and economic backgrounds. These inter-state educational and cultural exchanges can offer a different kind of learning experience to the participating students.
Why the Rajasthan-Sikkim Exchange Matters
India’s geographical and cultural diversity is well known. However, a lot of young Indians still lack an experiential understanding of this diversity. The youth exchange initiatives like Yuva Sangam aim to bridge this gap by creating more opportunities for young people to understand the diversity of India beyond textbooks. The Rajasthan-Sikkim exchange is a unique opportunity for the delegates to witness the cultural, culinary, and geographical diversity of these two states. The two states, which have been paired for inter-state youth exchange, have contrasting landscapes and lifestyles.
The visitors from Sikkim will have the opportunity to learn about Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage through workshops and interactive sessions and experience its desert landscape and vibrant traditions. Similarly, the delegates from Rajasthan will get exposed to Sikkim’s unique cultural and natural heritage. The Rajasthan-Sikkim exchange will help bridge the distance between the people of the two states. And this, perhaps, has been the underlying message of this exchange as the distance between Rajasthan and Sikkim is measured in thousands of kilometers.
