New Delhi. ; A new research study has found that less than half of India’s young population is currently employed, pointing to a widening gap between education and job opportunities. According to the analysis based on the PRICE ICE 360° survey data, only about 47% of young Indians are engaged in employment, while a significant share remains in education or outside the labour force.
The findings reflect the changing employment landscape for India’s youth, a group that represents a large portion of the country’s population. India currently has around 420 million people aged between 15 and 29, making it one of the youngest nations globally. However, despite this demographic advantage, challenges such as skill mismatch, limited job creation, and uneven regional opportunities continue to affect youth participation in the workforce.
Experts say the data underscores the importance of aligning education and training with industry needs. Reports on India’s labour market have also noted that employability depends not only on academic qualifications but also on practical skills and job-ready training. Strengthening skill development, expanding vocational education, and supporting emerging sectors are often highlighted as key steps to improve youth employment outcomes in the coming years.
