Mahendergarh - On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, the Department of Environmental Studies at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, organised a Workshop on Promotion of Science for students of Government Senior Secondary Schools from the university’s adopted villages. The workshop was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the FIST scheme as part of Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiatives.
The programme focused on enhancing scientific temper, environmental awareness and responsibility towards society with special emphasis on wetland conservation and the harmful impacts of plastic pollution. Addressing the participants Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, CUH, highlighted the importance of curiosity , scientific thinking and responsible action for sustainable environmental protection.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Mona Sharma, Coordinator, DST-FIST, who briefed participants about the objectives of the programme. Students from schools in Jant, Pali, Malra, Bawana, Basai, Sehlang, Khudana, Akoda, and PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kari actively participated in the event.
Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean (Research) and Prof. Pawan Kumar Maurya encouraged students to actively engage in science learning for sustainable development. The resource person, Prof. Vinod K. Garg from Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, conducted live demonstrations and hands-on experiments on microplastic measurement, light intensity analysis, air quality index (AQI) measurement, and other simple scientific techniques
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Anuta Singh, Head, Department of Environmental Studies, who acknowledged the collective efforts of faculty members and the enthusiastic participation of students. The event was a successfully organized with the support of faculty members Dr. Anoop Yadav, Dr. Vikram Singh, Dr. Bhupendra P. Singh, Dr. Dushyant Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar and students of the department.
