JMI VC addresses at ‘National Conference of Women Vice-Chancellors’ on the theme ‘Promoting Women Leadership in Higher Education’

 

Delhi :- Emphasising the pivotal role of women in shaping a healthy society,  Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri) today said, “Women hold various roles as leaders, nurturers, caregivers, and mothers. Their contributions are essential in creating a more humane society that values education, culture, and social development. By recognizing and empowering women, we can foster progress and prosperity in our communities”.

She was participating in the first ‘National Conference of Women Vice-Chancellors’ on the theme ‘Promoting Women Leadership in Higher Education’ organised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in association with Shiksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas and IILM University, Gurugram, Haryana. The conference aimed to discuss the under representation of women in leadership positions within the higher education sector and address the imbalance by providing a platform best practices, ideas and experience on how women leaders can be promoted and supported in  higher education sector.

In her address Prof. Najma Akhtar discussed in detail the various roles women play which helps in creating a more humane society. She particularly emphasised the role of women in the family, in the medical field, in agriculture, in the labour market, in the armed forces and in politics. She said that education plays a crucial role in human resource development, and women’s participation in education is essential for societal progress. By expanding educational opportunities for women, they can move beyond traditional roles and actively contribute to society’s enrichment.

She ended her address by stressing that women’s role in creating a more humane society is undeniable. As the structure of families evolves, women continue to be the primary drivers of cultural values and principles. Their contributions extend to politics, agriculture, healthcare, the labour market, and even the armed forces. By empowering women and ensuring their equal participation in all aspects of society, we foster progress, equality, and justice.
