Kolkata : West Bengal will introduce dedicated lessons on Syama Prasad Mookerjee in school and university curricula from the 2027 academic session, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced on Thursday. The decision was taken at the first meeting of a special committee formed to plan programmes commemorating Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary.

According to Adhikari, the state Education Department will include a dedicated section on Mookerjee’s contributions at both school and university levels. The move is intended to bring greater attention to his political and educational contributions as part of the curriculum.

Earlier, Adhikari had called for Mookerjee’s role in the formation of West Bengal, his views on patriotism and an undivided India, his parliamentary speeches, his tenure as a Union minister and his contribution as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta to be included in textbooks and discussed from school to university level.

The state government also plans to publish a book on Mookerjee as part of the programmes marking his 125th birth anniversary. The latest announcement formalises the plan to incorporate his contributions into Bengal’s educational curriculum beginning with the next academic session.
