Kolkata: The West Bengal School Education Department has constituted a high-level committee to review and revamp the state’s school curriculum, syllabus, textbooks, and examination system in line with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Frameworks (NCFs).
The committee is set to function from the office of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), and has been tasked with evaluating the existing education system for classes 1 to 12. It will recommend reforms to make school education more competency-based, experiential, and student-centric while improving curriculum design, teaching methods, assessment practices, and teacher training.
The panel will also examine concerns such as rote learning, the increasing dependence on coaching centres and the overall effectiveness of the current school education framework. Based on the findings, the committee will suggest measures to improve learning outcomes and align the state’s education system with the objectives of NEP 2020.
As per the official notification, the committee has been asked to submit its report within two months' time. Its recommendations are expected to guide future curriculum revisions and improve and strengthen the quality of school education across the schools of West Bengal.
