West Bengal: As Covid-19 instances continue to climb exponentially in the state, West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu stated on Friday that the state government does not currently have any urgent plans to close institutions and colleges.

Speaking to reporters, he stated that the health department's recommendation will be considered when a decision was made.

“We will act as per the advice of the health department. Nothing immediate is on the cards,” he said, replying to a question.

Basu stated that the government intends to hold the long-delayed students' union elections in the colleges and universities as soon as possible.

“We are watching the emerging Covid-19 situation. A decision will be taken on the union polls based on it,” he said.

On Friday, West Bengal reported 2,950 brand-new Covid-19 cases with a positive rate of 16.92%. According to the health department, three additional persons passed away in the state, and there are now 18,856 active cases.

Basu issued a strong warning to college and high school instructors who offer private lessons.

The state education minister was speaking at an event when two teachers' organizations supported by the TMC came together to work on academic problems.

According to their leaders, the West Bengal College and University Professors' Association and All Bengal State Government College Teachers' Association joined forces to further the interests of the teaching profession.

The minister stated that the government was dedicated to making sure that college and university instructors received their salaries as required and that their careers advanced.

Every Friday, he promised to be accessible at the TMC headquarters for two hours to speak with instructors and solve their issues.
