The Governor of West Bengal, R N Ravi, has appealed to all public and private universities in West Bengal, along with their colleges and institutions to celebrate August 14 as the day of remembering the horrors of partition. The governor has requested that educational institutions should get students, teachers and parents together to commemorate the effect of the Partition of India, especially in Bengal.
As stated by Lok Bhavan in a press release, the observance is meant to ensure that future generations know about the horrors that were committed when India was partitioned in 1947.
The governor has also said that by celebrating this day, students will be able to know about the conditions and factors that lead to the Partition, as well as to be careful of those forces that can cause divisions in society. This program is anticipated to give an opportunity to colleges and universities to involve students in the discussion and remembrance activities in relation to the Partition.
The 14th of August is declared as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in 2021 with the intention of paying tribute to those who were killed or displaced in the process of Partition. Along with this plea for the partition remembrance day, Ravi has also appealed to people, especially young citizens, to take part in the Har Ghar Tiranga movement by raising the national flag in their homes and offices before Independence Day.
