WBJEE 2026 Decentralised Counselling Begins

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) began registration for its first phase of the Common Online Decentralised Counselling Process 2026-27 for admissions to one of the many UG Engineering, Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy seats available in the institutes across West Bengal.

The current vacant seat matrix stands at 36,491, comprising of 33,857 seats in Engineering, Technology & Architecture and 2,634 seats in the field of Pharmacy. The current Decentralised Counselling approach, according to the WBJEEB, aims to remove the fragmented approach adopted by individual colleges to fill vacancies and replaces this with a centralised online system.

The timetable released by WBJEEB on September 3 is subject to change due to unavoidable reasons.

Who Can Apply for WBJEE Decentralised Counselling?

The Decentralised Counselling rules have been revised to include more candidates.

Eligible candidates include those with:

• A valid WBJEE 2026 merit rank
• A valid JEE Main 2026 rank
• Eligible candidates whose admission is based on 10+2 Higher Secondary Merit Rank (HMR) wherever permitted

Candidates are not allowed to apply for the combination of seats for which they have already been admitted under the Decentralised Counselling.

Existing Admission Will Not Be Automatically Cancelled

One of the key changes is that existing admissions are protected. Registering, submitting choices, being on a merit list, or having an allocation opportunity offered, will NOT cancel an existing admission.

If an already-admitted candidate successfully selects a new option and pays the seat acceptance fee, then the existing admission is protected until the new University/Institute completes verification and confirms the admission. The previous admission will be cancelled, and the seat will be released only after the new admission is confirmed.

WBJEE Decentralised Counselling Registration Fee

Candidates have to pay INR 250 (non-refundable) during participation in the process. As per the revised notification, eligible candidates can register for the decentralised counselling on the official website. Eligible candidates who have registered in the previous phase(s) need not register again, but new candidates can register in case they have not registered in any of the previous phases.

How Choice Filling Works

Candidates are allowed to select many college/institute-stream/discipline combinations during selection. Choices can be added, removed, or modified during the Active Window. After the Active Window is closed, all choices are locked.

Unlike other counselling processes, in the WBJEEB Decentralised Counselling Process, combinations of selected streams are treated as an unordered set instead of ranking. A candidate must select and lock only one of the many offered admission opportunities.

What Comes After the Merit List?

The Round 1 Merit and Allocation List will be out on September 10, at 10 AM. Successful candidates must select and confirm one of the available college-stream-discipline combinations and pay the Seat Acceptance Fee to generate a Provisional Admission Receipt.

Physical document verification and admission or withdrawal confirmation will take place at the respective institution. Subsequently, the vacancies from this round will be used for Round 2 and seats will be allocated based on merit and remaining vacancies. New choices will not be permitted in Round 2.

Why This Counselling Matters

The decentralised system is used to fill residual and newly created vacancies after centralised counselling. Such vacancies may occur due to non-admission, cancellations, withdrawals, failure of verification or candidates moving to other seats.

Instead of requiring students to monitor individual colleges, WBJEEB’s common online facility brings participating vacancies into one system. For candidates who have not been able to secure a seat in the main rounds or for students who want to secure a seat of better value, this process adds another layer of admission flexibility without requiring students to vacate a seat.

Final Thoughts

Registration for the WBJEE’s Decentralised Counselling 2026 session has started. There are a total of 36,491 seats for engineering, technology, architecture, and pharmacy offered through this session. Registration and choice filling have started and will close at 11:59 PM on 8th September. The first list for admissions will be published on 10th September.

The registration fee of ₹250 is very low; however, the timelines are strict. Candidates are advised to download the vacancy matrix and ensure that they select appropriate choices based on their eligibility before 8th September at 11:59 PM. The most significant change is that candidates with confirmed seat admissions need not surrender or lose that admission slot in order to participate in the counselling process. Candidates can protect their retained admissions in their present seats.
