New Delhi, September 23, 2025 – In a major push to foster innovation and creativity among school students, the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), today launched the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025. The initiative was unveiled by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, during a press conference held in the capital. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, also addressed the media, outlining the vision and roadmap of the event.
A Nation-wide Call to Young Innovators
The Buildathon is open to all students from Class 6 to 12, covering over 6.5 lakh schools and potentially engaging more than 12 crore students across India. The initiative is aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 — a roadmap to transform India into a developed nation by the year 2047 through inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-led growth.
Four Powerful Themes for Ideation
Participants will be encouraged to ideate and innovate around four key national development themes:
- Atmanirbhar Bharat: Developing self-reliant tools, systems, and solutions
- Swadeshi: Leveraging indigenous knowledge systems and innovations
- Vocal for Local: Promoting local resources, products, and entrepreneurship
- Samriddh Bharat: Creating pathways for sustainable prosperity
These themes aim to inspire students to become active contributors to the nation's growth story.
Buildathon Timeline & Key Dates
Launch: September 23, 2025
Registration Period: September 23 – October 6, 2025 (via official portal)
- Pre-event Preparation: October 6 – October 13, 2025
- Live Innovation Session: October 13, 2025 (in all participating schools)
- Idea Submission Window: October 13 – October 31, 2025
- Evaluation by Expert Panel: November 1 – December 31, 2025
- Results Announcement: January 2026
Nationwide Innovation Day on October 13
A unique highlight of the Buildathon will be a synchronized innovation event to be held simultaneously on October 13, 2025, in over 6.5 lakh schools across the country. This will mark a massive mobilization of young minds ideating in real time for the future of India.
Recognition & Rewards
To recognize the best ideas and innovations, the Buildathon comes with an award pool of ₹1 crore. Winners will be felicitated at multiple levels:
- National Level: Top 10 innovators
- State Level: Top 100 students
- District Level: Top 1,000 students
Over 1,000+ winners will be celebrated in January 2026 during a grand felicitation ceremony.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the importance of empowering students as changemakers:
"India's journey to becoming a developed nation by 2047 must be driven by our youth. The Buildathon will be a platform to channel their ideas, creativity, and passion into nation-building."
Secretary Sanjay Kumar added, "Every student has the potential to contribute to India’s development. Through this initiative, we hope to unlock that potential at scale."
