Victoria University to Launch India’s First Block Model Campus in Gurugram by 2026

Victoria University is set to open its first Indian campus in Gurugram in mid-2026, introducing the Block Model teaching system for the first time in India. The campus will offer business, IT and research programs under the National Education Policy.

Victoria University to Open India’s First Block-Model Campus in Gurugram

Gurugram : Victoria University (VU) is set to establish its first campus in India, bringing its pioneering Block Model teaching system to the country for the very first time. The foundation stone for the new campus in Gurugram was laid on December 4, 2025, marking a major milestone for foreign universities operating under India’s National Education Policy (NEP).

Campus Opening in Mid-2026

The Gurugram campus is expected to open by mid-2026. This will be India’s first international campus to offer the VU Block Model, an academic structure in which students focus on one subject at a time over intensive four-week blocks, taught through interactive workshop-style sessions.

A Major Step Under the National Education Policy

Following institutions such as Liverpool and Southampton, Victoria University becomes the latest global university to expand into India under the NEP framework. It is also one of the first Australian universities to be granted permission to operate in the country.

The university states that the new campus will allow Indian students to receive world-class higher education without the financial burden of studying abroad.

Programmes to Be Offered

In its initial phase, the campus will offer:

  • Undergraduate programmes in Business and Information Technology
  • Postgraduate degrees
  • Research-focused academic pathways

The campus’s design draws inspiration from VU’s City Tower Campus in Melbourne, which was purpose-built for block-based learning.

How the Block Model Works

Under the Block Model:

  • Students take only one subject per four-week block
  • Classes are small and interactive
  • Teaching emphasizes collaboration, focus, and reduced academic stress
  • VU reports that this model has delivered exceptional outcomes in Australia, including:
  • 94% pass rate across undergraduate and postgraduate levels

Significant improvement for first-generation university students and learners from disadvantaged backgrounds

Foundation Ceremony Highlights

The foundation event in Gurugram included a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and mango tree planting. Attendees included senior Australian and Indian officials, such as:

  • Julian Hill, Federal Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs
  • Steve Bracks, Chancellor of Victoria University
  • Professor Adam Shoemaker, Vice-Chancellor of VU

Julian Hill praised VU’s innovative teaching model and its potential impact on Indian learners, noting that the new campus will “connect Indian students with cutting-edge learning methods.”

Steve Bracks emphasized that the initiative will expand access to international-quality education:
“Bringing our VU Block Model to India offers students a proven pathway to success—one that is inclusive, industry-connected and designed for the future,” he said.

A Landmark Development for Global Education in India

The launch of the Gurugram campus marks an important step for international institutions entering India under the NEP. It opens new opportunities for students seeking global-standard education without relocating overseas.

Victoria University’s arrival signals a major shift in India’s higher education landscape—one that blends global expertise with local accessibility.
