New Delhi: Business schools in the United States are reviewing and updating their MBA programmes as enrolments from Indian students show a sharp decline. Reports indicate that the number of Indian students joining U.S. universities fell by about 45% in 2025, reflecting a significant shift in international study preferences.
Admissions leaders say several factors are influencing the change, including visa uncertainty, higher tuition and living costs, and evolving immigration policies that affect post-study employment opportunities. These challenges have prompted many prospective students to consider other destinations for management education.
As a result, many Indian applicants are increasingly exploring universities in Europe and Asia, where programmes may offer comparatively lower costs, English-language instruction, and clearer work pathways after graduation. Some U.S. institutions are now adjusting course structures and outreach strategies to attract international candidates and remain competitive in the global MBA market.
