UP TET 2026: UPESSC Rejects Revision of OMR Scores and Normalization
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has taken a decision regarding various representations/ requests, pointing out various issues concerning different candidates and received by it, following the declaration of the result of Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026.
According to information released by the Commission on September 16, 2026, several requests/ representations made by candidates were examined and it was decided that in case of any error/ omission in the certificates issued to the candidates, the candidates concerned would be given an opportunity to get the same corrected. However, in all other cases, the decision was final and no change would be made in the marks of the candidates.
UPTET Result 2026: Why Were Candidates Seeking Revision?
Results of UPTET 2026 were announced on August 26, 2026. The examination was conducted on July 2, 3 and 4, 2026 by the Commission. The examination was held at 955 examination centres in 60 districts of the state.
After the announcement of result, a large number of representations/ requests were forwarded to the Commission by the candidates. The representations/ requests were regarding various issues such as, differences in the particulars filled in by the candidates in OMR sheets, marks awarded to the candidates after normalization and expected marks of the candidates, etc.
UPESSC Decision on OMR Errors
Candidates whose OMR sheets contained errors with respect to roll numbers and/or question booklet numbers, requested the Commission to take into account their responses for the evaluation.
As reported by the UPESSC, the Commission’s position on these requests for re-evaluation, was that, in case of automated OMR processing (as in the case of the subject Commission’s examination), it is not possible to change/ alter the identification details (roll numbers) which may have been entered manually or bubbled in incorrectly.
Hence, the Commission is not adjusting the scores of the affected candidates.
What Did UPESSC Say About Normalization?
The process of Normalization attracted the greatest number of representations. The Commission conducted the UPTET, 2026, using multiple shifts and used the Normalization process as described in its notification while preparing the result of the said examination. As a result, in some cases, the marks obtained by the candidates went down.
Requests have been made to the Commission to restore the marks of such candidates. The UPESSC has also declined such requests. The Commission has implemented the Normalized Scores, and has not taken up the request of individual candidates for adjusting their marks.
Answer-Key-Based Marks Revision Not Accepted
Many candidates have also filed representations contending that their final marks do not conform to their answer key-based calculations. The Commission has also not accepted such individual cases. The decision of UPESSC, based on the evaluation and final answer key, is final.
Hence, candidates should not expect their cases to be re-evaluated solely because their results calculate answers differently from the mark shown in the result.
Correction Facility for UPTET Certificate
Candidates who have been declared successful in UPTET 2026 are, however, allowed to make corrections in their certificates by UPESSC, in case of any clerical errors. UPESSC has approved amendments in certificates pertaining to the following particulars:
- Name of the candidate/parents
- Date of Birth
- Category/Class
- Other relevant details
Candidates are advised to wait for the notification of UPESSC for the said correction facility.

Here’s what candidates of the UPESSC should know after the recent decision. For those looking for a review of OMRs, normalisation, and answer key marks, know that, with the recent UPESSC decision, their appeals have been rejected, and there should not be an expectation of changes to their scores. If candidates have errors in their certificates, they must wait for the opportunity to correct their certificates and follow the official procedures.
The provisional results of UPTET 2026 reported that 80.07% and 71.85% candidates of Paper 1 and Paper 2, respectively, were successful. With these provisional results, candidates must first protect their certificates, check their records, and act on the latest UPESSC decisions.
