UPSC Recruitment 2026: 828 Principal and Vice-Principal Vacancies for Delhi Government Schools; Key Details

Ten years of teaching experience as a Vice Principal/Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)/Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) in a recognized secondary/senior secondary school. A Doctorate and experience of being the head of a recognized school will be added advantages.
Requirements to Apply for the Vice-Principal Post
A candidate must have:
- A Master’s Degree
- A Bachelor of Education Degree.
Experience of either:
- Two years as a Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)
- Three years as a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT).
All of these posts will be permanent Group ‘A’ Gazetted, Non-Ministerial posts in the Directorate of Education, GNCT of Delhi.
Age Limit
The notification specifies different upper age limits.
Principal
- UR/EWS: 50 years
- OBC: 53 years
- SC/ST: 55 years
Vice-Principal
- UR/EWS: 35 years
- OBC: 38 years
- SC/ST: 40 years
Age relaxation for PwBD candidates and other eligible categories will be as per the Government of India.
Pay and Perquisites
The candidates will be appointed under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).
- Principal: Level-12 Pay Matrix
- Vice-Principal: Level-10 Pay Matrix
Both will be permanent Government of India Group ‘A’ Gazetted posts borne on the Delhi government schools with full administrative and academic functions.
Salary and Service Benefits
The chosen candidates will be appointed in accordance with the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).
- Principal: Level-12 Pay Matrix.
- Vice-Principal: Level-10 Pay Matrix.
Both will be permanent posts of Government of India Group ‘A’ Gazetted. These posts carry the responsibilities of both administration and teaching.
Selection Process
For these posts, the UPSC has adopted a two-stage selection process. Candidates will, first, appear for a Combined Recruitment Test (CRT), which will be held on 1st November, 2026.
