New Delhi. : The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 results have sparked an unusual controversy after two candidates with the same name, Akanksha Singh, claimed the same rank in the merit list. The confusion intensified when both candidates reportedly shared admit cards displaying the identical roll number – 0856794.
The situation quickly gained traction on social media and news platforms, raising questions about how two candidates could appear to hold the same rank in one of India’s most prestigious examinations.
Two Candidates Claim Rank 301
Shortly after the results were announced on Friday, a candidate from Bihar named Akanksha Singh claimed that she had secured Rank 301 in the UPSC CSE 2025 examination. Her claim began circulating widely on social media and soon drew attention from several media outlets.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when another candidate with the same name, Akanksha Singh, also claimed Rank 301. The second candidate currently lives in Delhi but is originally from Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh.
With both candidates asserting the same rank, confusion began spreading online, especially when documents shared by them appeared to show the same roll number.
Same Roll Number Creates Confusion
The controversy deepened when both candidates reportedly shared admit cards bearing the roll number 0856794.
According to reports circulating online:
- The Bihar candidate’s admit card displayed roll number 0856794, but the barcode number reportedly showed a different number – 0856569.
- Meanwhile, the Delhi-based candidate’s admit card showed matching roll number and barcode number – both reading 0856794.
- This discrepancy triggered speculation among students and observers about which candidate actually secured the rank in the final merit list.
Delhi Candidate Releases Video Statement
Amid the growing debate, Akanksha Singh from Delhi released a video statement clarifying her claim.
In the video, she introduced herself as a doctor and explained her academic background.
“My name is Dr. Akanksha Singh. I have secured Rank 301 in UPSC CSE 2025. I belong to Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh and I am a doctor by profession,” she said.
She further stated that she completed MBBS and postgraduate studies and currently works as a gynaecologist from AIIMS Patna.
Dr. Singh said she became aware that another candidate was claiming the same rank only after the results were announced.
“I recently learned that another girl is claiming the same rank. People can check the admit card because the barcode clearly reflects the correct roll number,” she said, expressing hope that the issue would soon be clarified.
Questions Yet to Be Clarified
The case has generated significant curiosity among UPSC aspirants and the public, primarily because roll numbers in the UPSC examination are unique identifiers.
While the Delhi candidate’s documents reportedly show matching roll number and barcode details, the Bihar candidate maintains that she also received an admit card with the same roll number and that she has qualified the examination.
As the discussion continues online, many are waiting for official clarification from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) regarding the matter and how the confusion arose.
