UP TET 2026: Return of the Biggest Teacher Exam in Uttar Pradesh after 5 Years
Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is back after approx 5 years. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) published the UPTET 2026 notification on 20th March 2026 and stated that this exam will be conducted in offline mode in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th July 2026. This is UPTET's first exam cycle after the 2021 edition, which was highly controversial and cancelled mid-way due to a paper leak, and subsequently conducted in January 2022.
UPTET 2026 expectations are through the roof. Candidates having B.Ed and D.El.Ed. qualifications, waiting for this exam since 2022, can now see a date to finalise preparations and submit applications. The application window for this exam opened on 27th March, and was subsequently extended till 3rd May 2026 due to issues with the server and the One Time Registration (OTR) system. Applicants were then given till 8th May 2026 to make any necessary corrections to their applications.
For those who did not submit an application, their only option is to prepare for the next UPTET 2026 cycle. Those who did apply are now done and should concentrate on the exam in July. The City Intimation Slip, which states the exam city and shift, will be released on 22nd June 2026, and the admit card will be published on 30th June 2026 on upessc.up.gov.in.
Eligibility, Exam Pattern and What Changed This Year
Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test allows aspirants to prove their eligibility to work as teachers in the state-run/government-aided primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh. The first paper covers Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Level) and the second paper covers Classes 6 to 8 (Upper Primary Level). Those interested in teaching at both levels must take both papers.
There is no upper age limit in UPTET 2026. Candidates from any age group can apply if they fulfill the minimum educational qualifications. To qualify for Paper I, candidates need to possess a degree (of any discipline) coupled with a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), or a degree (of any discipline) with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), or the completion of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) after the plus-two schooling. Similar conditions apply for Paper II as well. Candidates in the final year of the eligible courses were also allowed to apply.
The big change this year was the introduction of One-Time Registration (OTR). A candidate was expected to complete the Aadhaar-based OTR on the UPESSC portal before submitting the application. The purpose of the OTR is to create a permanent profile for the candidate to address the issue of multiple applications/recruitment in the future. As for the application fees, they remained at par with previous years, with the fees varying by category as stated in the official notification.
There are 150 questions per paper, each worth 1 mark, with a total time limit of 2 hours and 30 minutes. All the questions are objective.
