UP Schools Closed Till January 1 Amid Severe Cold Wave; CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Emergency Measures
Lucknow: A severe cold wave accompanied by dense fog has gripped large parts of Uttar Pradesh, disrupting normal life and forcing the state government to take urgent preventive steps. In view of the worsening weather conditions, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 12 across the state till January 1.
The decision applies uniformly to CBSE, ICSE, and UP Board schools to ensure the safety of students during extreme cold and near-zero visibility conditions.
Dense Fog Disrupts Life Across UP
Several districts, particularly Noida and surrounding NCR regions, are witnessing extremely low visibility due to thick fog. Major routes such as the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway have reported near-zero visibility at multiple locations, severely impacting road safety.
Early morning fog has slowed vehicular movement, disrupted train and flight schedules, and increased the risk of accidents. Authorities have issued advisories urging commuters to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during early hours.
CM Directs Officials to Stay on High Alert
Reviewing the situation, the Chief Minister instructed senior officials to remain on high alert and conduct regular field inspections. District administrations have been told to respond promptly to weather-related emergencies and ensure strict implementation of safety measures.
Noida Administration Declares School Holiday
In alignment with the state government’s directive, the Noida district administration has announced a school holiday from December 29 to January 1, citing hazardous road conditions and extreme cold.
Focus on Public Safety: Blankets, Bonfires, Night Shelters
To protect vulnerable populations, CM Yogi Adityanath has issued clear instructions to district officials to ensure:
- Distribution of blankets to the needy
- Adequate bonfires at public places
- Fully functional night shelters, ensuring no one sleeps in the open
- Officials have been asked to ensure shelters are well-equipped with essential facilities to safeguard people from the biting cold.
As the cold wave tightens its grip over Uttar Pradesh, the state administration has intensified relief and safety measures. Citizens are advised to stay alert, limit travel during dense fog, and seek shelter during extreme cold conditions.
