Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has approved ₹604 crore for the repair and reconstruction of 3,126 council-run primary and upper primary schools across the state.

The initiative, aimed at improving school infrastructure and creating safer and better-maintained learning spaces, will cover 2,243 primary schools and 883 upper primary schools.

The Basic Education Department has released ₹302 crore as the first instalment, with construction and repair work expected to begin soon.

₹344.52 Crore for Primary Schools

Of the total allocation, ₹344.52 crore has been earmarked for the repair and reconstruction of 2,243 council-run primary schools.

Around ₹15.36 lakh per school has been allocated for the work. The government has already released ₹172.26 crore as the first instalment for these schools.

The funding will also support improvements in basic facilities required for students and better-maintained school infrastructure.

₹259.95 Crore for Upper Primary Schools

Another ₹259.95 crore has been allocated for the repair and reconstruction of 883 council-run upper primary schools.

Around ₹29.44 lakh per school has been earmarked for the work, with ₹129.97 crore released as the first instalment.

The remaining funds will be released according to the prescribed process and requirements.

Focus on Safer Learning Spaces

The state government said the initiative is aimed at strengthening school infrastructure and providing students with safer and more suitable learning environments.

The repair and reconstruction programme is expected to address ageing infrastructure and improve basic facilities across council-run schools.

The work will be carried out according to prescribed standards and monitored by district- and state-level committees.

Infrastructure Push for Council Schools

The large-scale investment is expected to give thousands of council-run schools across Uttar Pradesh an infrastructure upgrade.

The initiative comes as the state focuses on improving the physical learning environment in government-run schools and ensuring that students have access to better-maintained classrooms and basic facilities.
