Various educational institutions across states and union territories organized a number of events today, on August 15, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the legendary song Vande Mataram. University departments, institutes of technology, and premier institutions witnessed an extensive participation of students in programs that highlighted the song’s history and its role in India’s freedom struggle. Academic executives and administration took out numerous sports, art, health and fitness, and ceremonial events for the enthusiastic student body.
Student Tiranga Bicycle Rallies Commenced In Major Cities -
A number of universities organized morning Tiranga bicycle rallies as a part of the Independence Day celebrations:
- Student volunteers, teachers, and other members of staff participated in the events that commenced in various cities across the state.
- The bicycle rallies aimed to promote fitness activities and national integration while mobilizing the youth and raising awareness about healthy lifestyle choices.
- Residents and members of the local business community turned up in numbers to show their support for the student volunteers hosting the event.
Patriotic Painting Competitions Held On “India 1947 vs. 2047” -
A number of painting competitions were conducted by art schools and student welfare boards:
- The competitions were themed ‘India 1947 vs. 2047’, and participants displayed their artistic skills on the topic on digital platforms and on paper.
- Winners of the competition were awarded certificates of appreciation and recognition by the university vice-chancellors during special program held on the Independence Day across campuses.
- Paintings by shortlisted students were put on display at the various university libraries and lawns for visitors to view.
Voluntary Campus Blood Donation Camps Organized -
Student welfare boards and social service clubs organized large blood donation camps in collaboration with local health departments:
- Student volunteers encouraged their peers to donate blood and participate in the health camp by offering free health check-up services.
- Many undergraduate and postgraduate students showed up in numbers to donate blood and raise awareness about social causes.
- Volunteers from the NSS and the Youth Red Cross handled administrative tasks and assisted doctors with screening tests throughout the day.
Ceremonial Flag Hoisting And Group Singing Events Held At Universities -
The day was wound up with ceremonial flag hoisting and group singing events at various universities:
- Flag hoisting events were held at the universities’ main administrative buildings by the executive heads and student representatives.
- In addition, the student body was able to witness the choral singing of the Vande Mataram by the various university choir and music clubs.
- Addresses by senior university officials dwelled on the importance of the song and urged students to participate in India’s development as future leaders.
