Paris: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the launch of its 2025 Internship Programme, inviting graduate students and recent postgraduates from around the world to gain valuable hands-on experience across multiple sectors. The programme duration ranges from one to six months, and the last date to apply is December 31, 2025.
About the Programme
The UNESCO Internship Programme provides participants with practical exposure to the organisation’s core areas — education, science, culture, communication, and information. It aims to enhance academic learning through professional engagement and foster a deeper understanding of UNESCO’s global mission and developmental priorities.
According to the organisation, interns will work on meaningful assignments across departments and contribute to ongoing projects that align with UNESCO’s strategic goals.
“The Internship Programme offers students the opportunity to understand UNESCO’s mission while strengthening their technical and professional skills through direct participation,” UNESCO stated.
Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for the internship, applicants must:
- Be at least 20 years old.
- Be currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) or have completed a postgraduate degree within the past 12 months.
- Possess excellent command of English or French; knowledge of both languages is considered an advantage, especially for roles at UNESCO headquarters.
- Demonstrate computer proficiency, teamwork, and strong communication skills.
UNESCO clarified that bachelor’s degree holders not enrolled in further studies are not eligible to apply. Applicants must also ensure their contact details remain valid for at least six months and submit their application in English or French.
Internship Duration and Conditions
The internship period may last from one month to six months, depending on the assignment. Selected candidates will be responsible for arranging their own visa, travel, accommodation, and living expenses, as UNESCO does not provide any financial compensation for internship positions.
The organisation also highlighted that submitting an application does not guarantee placement. Applications will stay active for six months on UNESCO’s recruitment portal, after which unselected candidates will be considered unsuccessful.
