New Delhi: In a recent directive, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended that all universities and colleges incorporate three-language courses into their curriculum. Under this initiative, students will study:
-
A local/regional language
-
Another Indian language
-
An optional third language of choice
This move is aimed at promoting linguistic diversity and cultural integration across higher education institutions in India. Universities are expected to develop structured syllabi and teaching resources to implement the guideline effectively.
The UGC has encouraged institutions to roll out these courses starting from the 2026 academic session and has provided a framework to ensure flexibility while maintaining academic standards.
