New Delhi. : The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the re-conduct of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for three subjects — English, Commerce and Sociology — following complaints about multiple errors in the question papers.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted from **June 22 to 30, 2026, across 87 subjects** for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), eligibility for Assistant Professor and admission to PhD programmes.
NTA Committee Finds Multiple Errors
Following several complaints regarding the English, Commerce and Sociology papers, NTA constituted a committee to examine the issues.
- The committee found multiple **factual, typographical and translation errors** in the three papers. These included misspelled names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles, errors in question stems, grammatical mistakes, gender and number agreement errors, punctuation issues and non-standard terms for established concepts.
- The committee also found that a significant number of questions had been repeated from previously administered examinations.
- Considering the extent of the defects, the committee recommended that the three papers be conducted again to ensure a fair and error-free examination.
- NTA stated that the defects could not be adequately addressed simply by dropping problematic questions during the answer-key challenge process.
UGC NET Re-Examination Schedule 2026
The re-examination for the three subjects will be conducted according to the following schedule:
- English September 9, 2026 Shift 1 9 AM to 12 Noon
- Commerce September 9, 2026 Shift 2 3 PM to 6 PM
- Sociology September 10, 2026 Shift 1 9 AM to 12 Noon
NTA said that details regarding the examination city, examination centre and admit cards will be notified separately on its official websites.
Candidates appearing for the re-examination will not be required to pay any additional examination fee.
Results for 84 Subjects to be Declared as Scheduled
- NTA clarified that the re-conduct of these three examinations will not delay the results of the remaining 84 subjects for which the answer-key challenge process was issued.
- The allocation of JRF seats and issuance of e-certificates for eligibility for Assistant Professor and PhD admission for these 84 subjects will proceed as scheduled.
For eligibility for Assistant Professor, the number of candidates qualifying will be equivalent to 6% of the candidates who appeared in the June 2026 examination or the retest, whichever is higher
- For English, Commerce and Sociology, subject-wise allocation for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility and PhD admission will be carried out in accordance with the UGC-NET Information Bulletin.
- NTA further clarified that after the retest, the number of candidates already allocated for each subject will not be reduced under any circumstances
