UGC NET 2026 Re-Exam Today: English, Sociology and Commerce Candidates Get NTA Advisory

New Delhi: Wishing candidates appearing for the UGC NET June 2026 re-examination in English, Sociology and Commerce, the NTA reminds candidates to reach their examination centres well in advance, carry their admit cards and valid photo identification and abide by all the instructions on the day of the examination.

The re-examinations are intended for the three subject areas as the NTA found several defects in the original question papers. The concerned pages on the UGC-NET website currently indicate the re-examination scheduled for September 9 and 10, 2026, along with the admit cards and city intimations.

UGC NET 2026 Re-Exam Schedule: Check Subject-Wise Timings

Candidates appearing for the re-examination should carefully check the date and shift mentioned on their admit cards.

Sociology

The schedule was announced by NTA when it decided to re-conduct the three papers.

Why is UGC NET being re-conducted for three subjects?

The complaints received concerning the English, Commerce and Sociology question papers of the June 2026 UGC NET examination resulted in the re-examination for these subjects.

As per the re-conduct notice, NTA formed a Committee that, during the review of the complaints, indicated the presence of several defects, which included factual errors, typing errors/omissions, translation and grammatical errors and errors concerning the wording of questions and repetition of questions from earlier examinations.

No Additional Fee Required for Re-Exam Candidates

There will be no additional charges for re-conduct for candidates taking the affected subjects. The re-examination will only cover English, Commerce and Sociology. The other subjects of the June 2026 UGC-NET exam are not included in this re-examination.

This is useful for the candidates because the UGC-NET June 2026 cycle included a much larger number of subjects across disciplines and across other parts of the examination.

UGC-NET Admit Card and City Slips

The advance city intimation for the re-examination and the admit cards for the examinations on 9th and 10th September have been released by NTA. A re-examination admit card link is available on the UGC-NET website for the candidates.

Candidates must remember that the city intimation slip is not the admit card. The admit card has the information that a candidate requires for the entrance to the examination room along with the centre and other instructions. For any last-minute updates, the official UGC-NET website should be the primary and only source. Ultimately, NTA decided it was more appropriate to conduct the three examinations again as opposed to accepting defects noted through the challenge to the published answer keys.

NTA Advises Candidates to Reach Centres Early.

Having reached out to candidates, the NTA said that timely reaching of centres is of utmost importance, especially for candidates in Delhi. The reason for that is probable traffic congestion around the 9th and 10th of September. So, candidates are advised to finalise their route and reach their respective centres well before time.  For candidates of all regions, the advice on the examination day are as follows:

  • Carry your UGC NET admit card.
  • Carry a valid photo ID.
  • Check the instructions given on the reporting day by the examination centre.
  • Reach the centre at least 1 hour before the examination.
  • Follow the instructions of the centre officials and NTA employees.
  • Don't rely on the city intimation slip to enter the examination hall.

What Candidates Should Remember Today

For English candidates, the examination is scheduled for September 9 in the morning shift. Commerce candidates will appear in the afternoon shift on the same day, while Sociology candidates will take the re-examination on September 10 morning.

The NTA's latest message is simple, but useful on an exam day: arrive early, carry the required documents and follow the instructions carefully. After weeks of uncertainty surrounding the affected papers, candidates now have one final task in front of them —focus on the examination itself.

Final Thoughts

The UGC NET 2026 re-examination is an interesting addition to this year's eligibility test, as three of the papers were published again after concerns about issues with the original papers. Those in English, Commerce and Sociology can now put practical concerns first. Check the admit card to confirm the centre, arrange travel and be there extra early.

Even though for many candidates this is another paper, for thousands of candidates, this is an opportunity to bury the disruption of the past and focus on the goal for which they have been working towards.
