UGC Issues Warning Against ‘International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine’, Calicut—Not Recognised to Grant Degrees

UGC Alert: ‘International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine’, Calicut Not Recognised — Students Warned Against Admission

New Delhi. : UGC warns students and parents against taking admission in the ‘International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine’, Calicut. The institution is not recognised to award degrees under the UGC Act.

UGC Cautions Students and Parents

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a public notice cautioning students, parents, and the general public not to take admission in the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine, located in Calicut, Kerala.

According to the official notification released on the UGC website, the said institution is not a recognised university under the UGC Act, 1956, and is therefore not authorised to confer any degrees.

“Students, parents and the public at large are cautioned not to take admission in the above-mentioned self-styled institution, as taking admission in such self-styled institutions may jeopardize the career of the students,” the notice reads.

Institution Not Recognised Under UGC Act

The Commission clarified that the so-called university is using the title “university” without statutory approval, which violates the provisions of the UGC Act.
Only universities established through a Central Act, State Act, or Provincial Act, or institutions deemed to be universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, are permitted to award degrees in India.

Since the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine does not fall under any of these categories, it has no legal authority to offer degree programmes.

UGC’s Ongoing Crackdown on Fake and Unrecognised Institutions

This advisory is part of the UGC’s continued efforts to curb fake universities and protect students from falling prey to unrecognised institutions operating without proper authorization.

Earlier, the Commission had also warned against several self-styled universities and unauthorized franchise centers that claim to offer recognized degrees in collaboration with legitimate universities.

The UGC reiterated that any institution offering degrees without valid recognition misleads students and violates national education regulations.

Students Advised to Verify Recognition Before Admission

The UGC has urged all students and parents to verify the recognition status of any university or higher educational institution before seeking admission.
Verification can be done through the official UGC website (www.ugc.gov.in), which provides an updated list of recognized universities in India.

Enrolling in an unrecognized institution can result in the degree being declared invalid, leading to the loss of academic years and career opportunities.
