The University Grants Commission (UGC) has called upon all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including universities and colleges, to submit nominations for the Padma Awards 2027* one of India's highest civilian honours. In a circular issued on 14 July 2026, the UGC, acting on directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed institutions that the awards recognise individuals who have made exceptional and distinguished contributions in fields such as Art, Literature & Education, Sports, Medicine, Social Work, Science & Engineering, Public Affairs, Civil Service, Trade & Industry, and Innovation . The UGC has urged institutions to identify and recommend deserving individuals by submitting a detailed curriculum vitae (CV) along with the nomination to the Commission by 21 July 2026. The Ministry of Education has also directed all its departments and autonomous organisations to ensure wide publicity of the nomination process to encourage greater public participation. As per the official guidelines, all nominations and recommendations must be submitted online through the *Rashtriya Puraskar Portal by 31 July 2026, after which they will be considered by the Government of India. The Padma Awards 2027* are scheduled to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day 2027 recognising individuals for their outstanding service and achievements across diverse sectors.
