IIT Madras Opens Applications for Summer Fellowship Programme 2026

Indian Institute of Technology Madras has invited applications for its Summer Fellowship Programme 2026, offering a two-month, on-campus research internship for non-IIT students. The programme provides selected candidates with direct exposure to faculty-led research across engineering, sciences, humanities, and management. Eligible interns will receive a monthly stipend of ₹15,000.

Chennai - The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has officially opened registrations for its Summer Fellowship Programme (SFP) 2026, aimed at providing meritorious non-IIT students with an opportunity to gain hands-on research experience at one of India’s premier technical institutions.

The two-month internship programme will be conducted on campus from May 18 to July 17, 2026. Selected candidates will work closely with IIT Madras faculty members on research projects and laboratory tasks across a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, sciences, humanities, and management. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of ₹15,000, subject to programme guidelines.

The fellowship is open to non-IIT students pursuing the third year of undergraduate programmes such as BE, BTech, BSc Engineering, or a three-year BSc with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Students in the third or fourth year of integrated or dual-degree master’s programmes (ME, MTech, MSc), as well as first-year MSc, MA, and MBA students with strong academic records, are also eligible to apply.

Internns selected under the program will assist in experiments, simulations, data analysis and literature reviews, while also participating in seminar, presenting findings and contributing to project reports.The initiative aims to nurture research aptitude and expose students to institutional research culture and interdisciplinary collaborations. 

Applicants are required to complete the online registration through the official Summer Fellowship portal, upload a consolidated PDF of academic certificate and mark sheets from class 10 onwards, a passport-size photograph, Aadhaar card, category certificate(if applicable) and a bonafide student letter signed by the Head of Institution. A non-refundable registration fee of  ₹100 applicable.

The last date to apply is March 2, 2026, at 5:00 pm, and late submissions will not be accepted. IIT Madras has advised interested candidates to review eligibility criteria carefully and apply well before the deadline.
