Two JMI Research Scholars receive DST AWSAR 2021 Award in PhD category

:- The main motivation behind the DST- AWSAR scheme is to attract the best talent into scientific research writing that holds a significant contribution to society, and is written in a lucid way that can be understood easily by the general public

 

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Research Scholars Ms. Sahar Qazi, a Ph.D. scholar from the Department of Computer Science and Mr. Akash Garg, a Ph.D. scholar from the Department of Physics have been selected for the coveted DST-AWSAR 2021 (Department of Science & Technology - Augmenting Writing Skills for Articulating Research) Award for best popular science stories in PhD category. Both the scholars will receive an appreciation certificate and a prize money of ₹ 10,000/- under the scheme. Sahar and Akash thanked their supervisors and other members of the department who supported them for their achievement.

 Ms. Sahar Qazi, a DST-INSPIRE Fellow, is working in the area of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Raza in the Department of Computer Science. Mr. Akash works on Astrophysics under the supervision of Dr. Somasri Sen from the Department of Physics, JMI and Prof. R. Misra from IUCAA, Pune.

It is worth mentioning that under the DST-AWSAR 2021, the DST received 1,779 submissions, out of which only 100 best popular science stories were selected for the award.
