New Delhi - Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is set to host a workshop on “Understanding Migration in the EU” from February 18–20, 2026, at the School of International Studies (SIS), JNU. The programme is being organized under the Jean Monnet Module “Migration Issues in the European Union” by the Centre for European Studies, SIS, JNU, and is co-funded by the European Union.

The workshop will examine migration as one of the most consequential and contested issues shaping contemporary Europe. It will address themes such as demographic change, labour shortages, humanitarian responsibilities, internal mobility, border governance, refugee movements, and political polarization within the EU. Moving beyond crisis-driven narratives, the sessions will focus on structural drivers, policy instruments, governance challenges, and socio-political consequences of migration in the European Union.

Designed for postgraduate and doctoral students working in fields such as international migration, Indian migration, European studies and diaspora studies, the workshop will feature expert lectures, case study discussions on EU migration and asylum crises, policy simulations and role-play exercises, thematic working groups, digital poster presentations, and hands-on training on migration data, policy documents and analytical tools. Interactive Q&A sessions, research design clinics, and academic mentoring will also form a key part of the programme.

The workshop is convened by Dr Sakti Prasad Srichandan, Assistant Professor, Centre for European Studies, SIS, JNU. The organisers noted that the initiative aims to strengthen interdisciplinary and empirically grounded research skills among young scholars studying migration in the EU context.
