The role of women in society is important for the development of the country: Justice Surya Kant

:- Expert lecture organized by Internal Complaints Committee and Women Empowerment Cell at CUH

 

Haryana: The role of women is very important in the development of the country and society. Swami Vivekananda has said that the country and the nation can become great, which gives respect to women. The role of Role of judiciary and legislature is important in this direction, but awareness and discussion are very important for significant changes in this direction and for this educational institution will have to come forward and make special efforts. These views were expressed by Hon'ble Shri Justice Surya Kant, Judge Supreme Court of India in the expert lecture organized by the University's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and Women's Empowerment Cell at Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh on Saturday on the completion of 25 years of ‘Vishakha’ guideline. The program was presided over by Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University, while Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Faridabad was also present in the event.

Hon’ble Shri Justice Surya Kant inaugurated the newly constructed girls’ hostel in the University campus with a capacity to accommodate 315 girl students. On this occasion, he also inaugurated World Environment Day by planting ‘Triveni’ in the hostel premises and releasing poster exhibition.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar said that this new hostel is fully disabled-friendly and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. In total 105 rooms built in it, facilities like bed, table, chair and wardrobe etc. have also been made available for the girl students. Prof. Sunil Kumar, Registrar presented the progress report of the University.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Faridabad, said that this topic is very important and continuous discussion is necessary on it. He said that for the betterment of the society it is necessary that religion, caste, color and gender equality should be followed. Indian society is constantly striving in this direction and for this there is a need to work with awareness.

The distinguished speaker in the event, Hon'ble Shri Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India mentioned the role of women in the development of society, country and world community and mentioned special efforts towards the necessary equality. Along with mentioning the story of the implementation of the Vishakha guideline on this occasion, he also drew attention to the continuous efforts made by the court in this direction. In which the reference to the efforts like the right of ancestral property to women, equal opportunities to women in the army were prominent. He said that the judiciary is constantly striving to improve the conditions of the executive and for this rules and regulations are necessary. At the same time, according to the social conditions, improvements and modifications should be done in them.

Justice Surya Kant, while mentioning the importance of the Vishakha guideline, said that its usefulness is proved by the fact that similar guidelines have been implemented in our neighboring countries Bangladesh and Pakistan. This guideline provides protection to women from sexual harassment at workplace and is necessary for the right to equality, right to equal opportunity, right to live a dignified life as enshrined in the constitution. He described the role of the University and various educational institutions important in this and said that educational institutions not only at the level of their institution but also at the local level can spread awareness by making the general public aware of the various rights made for women's rights and equality. The role of educational institutions is also important in making the common citizen aware of the rights and duties.

Prior to this the program coordinator and ICC member Dr. Pradeep Singh, while highlighting the Visakha guideline, also mentioned the decisions given by Hon’ble Shri Justice Justice Surya Kant in this direction. He also discussed Justice Surya Kant's theory of invisible justice and invisible litigants. Faculty members, officers, employees, students and researchers were also present.
