Hyderabad, June 17, 2026: The Telangana Basketball Association (TBA) announces that the Telangana Junior Basketball League (TJBL) will be the first-ever professional basketball league in the state that is fully dedicated to the discovery and development of talent.

The league is scheduled to start on June 19 and will be inaugurated at the Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium, Yousufguda with games continuing until June 28, 2026. Reddy also announced that games will be held each day during the league between the hours of 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

Build A Stronger Ecosystem for Basketball

Mr. Prudhvishwar Reddy explained that “the purpose of the TJBL is to form a long-term ecosystem that allows nurturing of talent on the lower rungs of the professional ladder while giving them quality coaching and sports infrastructure,” and that “the goal is to identify talent at a younger age and guide them to a path where they can thrive at the state, national and international levels.”

TJBL has been imagined as an early professional opportunity for passionate young sportspersons to gain competitive value for their talent and help to accelerate their sporting career. The league demonstrates the enthusiasm of the stakeholders for the sport and the rapidly emerging basketball culture in Telangana.

Tournament Structure and Participating Franchises

Bordering on a historic achievement for grassroots basketball development in the state, the tournament will have Under-15 and Under-18 categories for boys and girls.

The first season will have 6 city-based franchises:

  • Hyderabad Hurricanes
  • Ranga Reddy Rulers
  • Nalgonda Ninjas
  • Vikarabad Predators

The tournament has garnered immense popularity across the state, with around 3,000 participants. These aspiring athletes were rigorously screened, and the talented participants were invited for a fitness and skills training camp for the entire month of May.

A New Pathway for Emerging Basketball Excellence

Through the combination of managed teams, owned franchises, player development, and competitive play, TJBL is set to become a game-changing project in Telangana’s sports ecosystem and a springboard for upcoming basketball talent.

TJBL will facilitate the development of Telangana basketball talent and motivate thousands more young boys and girls to participate in the sport and aspire to greater things.
