August 17th, 2026: Swinburne University of Technology now accepts applications for the Master of Engineering Science for the September 2026 intake. This course targets engineering graduates with a desire for more advanced technical skills. It combines regular coursework with advanced research, providing the skills and knowledge required for people to take on more specialised roles in the engineering and technology employment sectors.
This two-year degree provides students with both an advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals and the skills to conduct the necessary research to provide solutions to the issues and complexities of the broader industry. With a combination of discipline-specific coursework and research, this degree enables graduates to work on the more advanced engineering problems that exist in the areas of infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, telecommunications and even the more modern technologies.
The degree consists of advanced coursework and an engineering research thesis. This research component provides students the opportunity to undertake engineering research to solve engineering problems, and build the necessary skills of both research and technical sophistication required to work at a high level in industry, research, and engineering practice.
Course Delivery :
Students can complete the Master of Engineering Science over full-time study of 2 years or part-time study of 4 years. The course is broken into core engineering subjects, specialisation units and a major research thesis and is designed to provide students flexibility to personalise their studies based around career aspirations and interests.
The courses offered incorporate areas of Professional Practice in Engineering, Engineering Project Management, Research Methods, and the Engineering Master Major Thesis.
Entry Requirements: Applicants must have completed four years of full-time study at a recognised institution of a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree.

English Requirements: Students need to achieve an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no individual band score of less than 6.0, or other equivalent English language tests.
