Supreme Court to Hear FAIMA’s NTA Reform Requests: Will This Hearing Impact the Future of NEET?
For numerous medical aspirants, the next development on the NEET-UG 2026 controversy will take place in the Supreme Court, not at the exam. Months after NEET-UG 2026 was canceled and conducted again due to a purported exam leak, the Supreme Court will address a series of petitions that challenge not only the management of a single exam, but the reliability of the entire examination system. Among these petitions is the FAIMA petition, which demands extensive reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA) and calls for its substitution and/or complete restructuring.
Significance of the Hearing
Test paper leaks have gone from being an isolated occurrence to a serious problem affecting millions of students who are preparing for high-stakes competitive exams. FAIMA claims that the alleged NEET-UG 2026 exam leak was a reflection of an administrative breakdown of a systemic nature, rather than a temporary failure. Through this petition, the doctors’ organization has asked the Supreme Court to check if the existing framework of examinations in India is competent to uphold the integrity of the largest entrance examination of the country.

According to the petitioners, the main goal of all of these solutions is to help the public trust the national entrance tests again.
What Happened?
Allegations of the NEET-UG 2026 confidential exam questions being leaked and circulated on social media were confirmed after the exam, which was on May 3. The exam was first cancelled and then rescheduled on June 21 due to widespread protests over the integrity of the exam.
The Union Government assigned the investigation to the CBI, which registered a First Information Report (FIR) for a variety of offenses, including the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. Additionally, a variety of Special Investigation Teams (SITs) were established to investigate the alleged leak syndicate.
Supreme Court’s Earlier Comments
The Supreme Court has not concealed its irritation during earlier hearings. Remarks were made by a Bench led by Justices P. S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe, stating that it was "sad" that the NTA had not picked up lessons from previous controversies. The Court asked the agency to elaborate on the steps that were taken to implement the suggestions of the expert committee that was constituted after the 2024 NEET controversy.
The Court has also asked for the responses of the Centre, the NTA, and the CBI before it takes further steps.

Many petitioners have demanded stronger safeguards for the examination, more transparency, and more judicial oversight and accountability for the concerned institutions.
