Gangtok: Several students were scammed by a fake website of Sikkim University. While searching about the admission process, they visited the website, which looks the same as the official Sikkim University's website. After that, the official website issued the notice and informed students about the situation.
The website on the internet, which has the portal layout as the official site. The first time, visitors could not distinguish between the official and fake websites. The students wouldn’t be able to proceed further to provide any service. The fake website can manipulate new students into scamming them and requesting payments or documents. This can harm the privacy of students and harm their mental and financial situation.
The official website has many features and options to explore for the students. On the official website, there is an image of the Vice-Chancellor, as well as an in-depth explanation about the vision of the university. The objectives are also mentioned on the official website and the images. The official and the fake website have many differences, but the major difference is that the fake website’s all sections don't work. If students select any option, they will return to the page again. As of now, the website doesn’t respond to any options, but in future, when the admission session is on, students can misunderstand the fake website as official and get scammed by the fake one.
Before believing any website to be official, students should cross-check it against reliable sources. The university said in the notice that any visitor or user should not visit the fake website. Please avoid uploading any documents and paying fees through any website or link.
